About Us
We are located in Victoria, Australia. The content of this site has an Australian focus.
We love learning and we hope that you do too! Learning has no age or cultural boundaries. Making an ant farm is fun and educational, no matter how old you are or where you live. ‘Hive of Activity’ is all about a love of learning.
Some thoughts on learning 1
“It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, barefoot irreverence to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to question it.”
― Jacob Bronowski, The Ascent of Man
“There are three kinds of men. The ones that learn by readin’. The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”
― Will Rogers
“Learned we may be with another man’s learning: we can only be wise with wisdom of our own.”
― Michel de Montaigne, The Complete Essays
“The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.”
― B.B. King
“Real learning comes about when the competitive spirit has ceased.”
― Jiddu Krishnamurti
“When a poet digs himself into a hole, he doesn’t climb out. He digs deeper, enjoys the scenery, and comes out the other side enlightened.”
― Criss Jami, Venus in Arms
“It has been a long trip,” said Milo, climbing onto the couch where the princesses sat; “but we would have been here much sooner if I hadn’t made so many mistakes. I’m afraid it’s all my fault.”
“You must never feel badly about making mistakes,” explained Reason quietly, “as long as you take the trouble to learn from them. For you often learn more by being wrong for the right reasons than you do by being right for the wrong reasons.”
― Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth
“Learning is an ornament in prosperity, a refuge in adversity, and a provision in old age.”
― Aristotle
“In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”
― Eric Hoffer
“A teacher who loves learning earns the right and the ability to help others learn.”
― Ruth Beechick, An Easy Start in Arithmetic
“Lucy: You learn more when you lose ”
Charlie Brown: “Well then I must be the smartest person in world!!!”
― Charles M. Schulz, Peanuts Treasury
“It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom. Without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail.”
― Albert Einstein

This site is dedicated to my father, Dennis, a humble, peaceful man who was raised during a time of war. He ensured that his children had the learning opportunities that were denied to many of his generation. To all children everywhere – especially those who have been raised in a time of war – may you be instrumental in bringing peace to your little corner of the world. Yvonne
